FOR and against ESSAY- Sara Bouzas

MUSIC PIRACY

Nowadays, people are always listening to music, it has become almost as something necessary for many people so, why don’t just getting it for free? Since the apparition of internet, getting music illegally has become really easy and it has originated a huge discussion about whether we should or shouldn’t do it.

On the one hand, there are people who consider that we should just get it for free. First of all, what is better than being able to enjoy your favorite kind of music without wasting any money? Purchasing CD’s or buying music online can be really expensive and with the economy that there is this days there are a lot of people who don’t have the money for getting it. It’s known that listening to music makes people happier so it should be free in the first place, but as this is not going to happen anytime soon, it may be better to just get it for ourselves.

Whereas, on the other hand, there are people who believe that is better buying it. Music is part of an industry and many people live from it. Musicians and singers deserve being paid for their jobs and if you really like their music you should be buying it for supporting them and allowing them to continue with their work rather than downloading it illegally, which may be bad for their careers. Besides, as easy as downloading music may seem it’s also a great way for ending up with your device full or virus, and that’s not worth the risk.

However, in my opinion, I think that is possible to find a middle point. We could buy some CD’s from the people we like the most or just use apps as Spotify which is way cheaper and the artists obtain benefits from it. Also, there’s nothing wrong with downloading pirate music from time to time as long as it doesn’t end up becoming a habit and you have a good anti-virus.
